Core Stability Training
Core stability describes the ability to control the position and movement of the trunk (central portion of the body). Hence core stability training targets the deep abdominal and back muscles which connect to the spine, pelvis and shoulders and assist in the maintenance of good posture and smooth, coordinated movement.
Good core stability can help maximise both performance in sport as well as providing good posture & enhancing comfort and ease in every day living. This in turn can contribute greatly to the prevention of injury.
The ability to maintain good posture helps to protect the spine and skeletal structure from extreme ranges of movement during sport and work tasks such as sitting at a computer and lifting for example.
It therefore follows that core stability training will be focussed around conditioning exercises and postural advice which may range from very simple lumbar support through to stability ball rehabilitation
