Stiff neck
People with a stiff neck usually experience pain as well. There are many structures in the neck which may contribute, including muscles, nerves, vertebrae and discs. It should be noted that neck pain may also come from other areas near to the neck, such as the jaw, head, shoulders and upper arms.
What causes a Stiff neck?
A stiff neck is most commonly caused by straining a muscle, often during an everyday activity or very often reported after ‘sleeping awkwardly’. Other contributing activities might include spending long periods sat at a desk or computer, reading or watching television, or ‘jarring’ the neck whilst exercising. History of trauma to the neck may also cause stiffness in later life.
